BSS have reopened the smoke alarm consultation until the end of July 2026. You can see the consultation here: https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/about-us/news-blog/nr26-001-the-boat-safety-standards-setting-forum-smoke-alarm-consultation-extended/
This has happened becaase NABO complained to CRT about the manner and timing of the consultation on Smoke alarms. The start was unannounced, and it then became apparent that the new BSS Board had taken a decision to limit the consultation to only 6 weeks. We reminded them that the BSS requirements are subject to statutory consultations, and that 6 weeks was an unprecedentedly short period. This is not about smoke alarms. It is about new staff members in BSS Ltd making up new rules to suit themselves. They have lost site of the BW 1995 Act. Please make a comment on the consultation.
