Do you have canal boat ancestors?
Do you have canal boat ancestors? ‘Spellweaver’ is a website devoted to tracing ancestors who were boaters or those who worked on the canals. The creator of the website says: “One of the things I’ve found useful in tracing my canal boat ancestors is newspaper articles, which can be pretty informative, giving details such […]
Chairman’s Column NABO News 5 November 2016
The (mostly) ups and (a few) downs of chairing NABO Mike Rodd looks back over the last three years. With our AGM looming, this will – sadly – be my last column as your chairman. When David (gently?) twisted my arm as he held me out over the K&A from the balcony of the pub […]

Having capped licence fees to inflation for the past three years, the 2017 increase anticipates next year’s prevailing inflation rate which is widely forecast to rise between now and next summer.

Held in The Old Rectory at Llangattock, alongside the Mon & Brec canal, this well-attended meeting concentrated largely on the very extensive winter work programme that will effectually close the canal from November until Easter next year.
NE Waterway User Forum, Castleford, September 2016
NE Waterway User Forum, Castleford, 20th September 2016 I attended this meeting last night on behalf of NABO. I didn’t think it was quite as well attended as in previous years – around 45-50 in total including the numerous CRT staff. I suspect this may be down to the changed start time of 1700 instead […]

From 14 November CRT will be introducing a new online self-service booking system which will allow boaters to book passage through some of the waterways’ most famous landmarks. Once it’s up and running, if you’re planning trips through Anderton Boat Lift, Standedge Tunnel, Liverpool Canal Link, Ribble Link and Frankton Lock, or wanting to use […]
