Our response has now been completed to the consultation on "A New Era for the Waterways".

The 13 page response covers all the questions in the consultation, and adds some additional remarks about other key issues for boaters.

The headline is continued support for the concept of the NWC,  because "The Waterways are far too important to be run by Government and starved of essential resources based on political whim."

But there are some caveats.

Particular emphasis is placed the need for:

  – real change in BW

  – boaters representation on the Council

  – recognition of the role of boaters in supporting and paying for the waterways

  – a plan to address concerns for the maintenance backlog and funding.
