Drought affects Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal

BW have announced that it will be necessary to introduce a series of measures to manage the water on the Mon and Brec canal from Monday 28th June.

The Environment Agency have advised that Flow Levels in the River Usk have continued to fall and Drought flows are now being recorded.  As a result BW is obliged to reduce demand for water.

From Monday 28th June, locks 64, 68 and 69 will be locked between the hours of 19.00 and 08.00.  Customers who are in the flight at 7pm will be asked to find a suitable place to moor overnight and wait until the flight opens next morning. Locks 64 to 68 will be manned by a British Waterways Operative during periods of high demand Saturday, Sunday & Wednesday 10am till 3pm. The bottom offside paddle at Lock 64 will be locked to reduce the surge of water leaving the lock and being lost over the waste weir.

From Monday 5th July, locks 64, 68 and 69 will be locked between the hours of 16.00 and 10.00. The duration of manning of locks 64 to 68 will be increased.
