EA’s National Navigation Users Forum (NNUF) meeting: 2nd December 2016.
Mike Rodd represented NABO at this biannual meeting which was well attended by most of the boating organisations which cover the EA navigations. As is usual with these EA User Forums, the preparatory work was excellent and the meeting was very well chaired by EA Board member Peter Ainsworth, with a focus of making sure […]
Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Boats are built to keep water out, but this also makes them good containers for gases and fumes – especially carbon monoxide. ‘Black-spot’ colour-changing CO indicator cards are not good enough: they do not give an instant warning of dangerous CO levels and have no alarm to wake you up. CO alarms are designed to […]
Do you have canal boat ancestors?
Do you have canal boat ancestors? ‘Spellweaver’ is a website devoted to tracing ancestors who were boaters or those who worked on the canals. The creator of the website says: “One of the things I’ve found useful in tracing my canal boat ancestors is newspaper articles, which can be pretty informative, giving details such […]
National Inland Navigation Forum, October 2016
NINF met at the St Pancras Cruising Club on Saturday 22nd October 2015 with 6 of its 11 member organisations present, and, as usual, proved to be a useful meeting point, bringing together bodies involved in CRT, EA and other waterways.
Trial New Visitor Moorings at Kings’ Cross
The Canal & River Trust is introducing a trial stretch of new visitor moorings on the Regent’s Canal in King’s Cross following a consultation last year into how the space in this increasingly popular area can be shared fairly.
CRT Increases Boat Licence Fees
The Canal & River Trust is today announcing that private and business boat licence fees will rise by 2.5% from 1 April 2017. Having capped licence fees to inflation for the past three years, the 2017 increase anticipates next year’s prevailing inflation rate which is widely forecast to rise between now and next summer.
Report on South Wales and Severn Autumn Forum: 17th October 2016
Held in The Old Rectory at Llangattock, alongside the Mon & Brec canal, this well-attended meeting concentrated largely on the very extensive winter work programme that will effectually close the canal from November until Easter next year.
NE Waterway User Forum, Castleford, September 2016
NE Waterway User Forum, Castleford, 20th September 2016 I attended this meeting last night on behalf of NABO. I didn’t think it was quite as well attended as in previous years – around 45-50 in total including the numerous CRT staff. I suspect this may be down to the changed start time of 1700 instead […]

From 14 November CRT will be introducing a new online self-service booking system which will allow boaters to book passage through some of the waterways’ most famous landmarks. Once it’s up and running, if you’re planning trips through Anderton Boat Lift, Standedge Tunnel, Liverpool Canal Link, Ribble Link and Frankton Lock, or wanting to use […]
