This is a summary report on the boater meeting(s) held at Anderton Lift on 1st April 2014.
There were two meetings back to back. The writer attend the second, understood to be the less well attended. There was never the less a good balance of well informed boaters present, and many of the usual boater issues came up.
The was held on Thursday 13.3.2014 evening at the CRT offices, Fearns Wharf, Leeds. I attended on behalf of NABO together with around 60 other boaters and the meeting followed the usual pattern with the CRT NE Waterway Manager – Jon Horsfall – as host.
The Fire Kills campaign is again encouraging people to test their smoke alarms when they change their clocks this coming clock change weekend. The snappy tagline ‘TICK TOCK TEST’, will help remind us all of the need to test our smoke alarms at this time of year.
Smoke alarms save lives, but only if they work. With over 130 boat fires on Boat Safety Scheme records last year, including one fatal fire and many others losing their possessions and sometimes homes, it is essential that people test their smoke alarms regularly.
Following further discussions with interested parties including NABO, the Canal and River Trust has today launched its response to the recent consultation on the towpath mooring plan for the K&A Canal west of Devizes. This plan was produced by a sub-group of the Waterways Partnership, building upon work undertaken by an earlier and, unfortunately, abandoned working party in which most boating organisation were involved. NABO has always accepted that CRT has a problem inherited from BW to deal with on this highly congested stretch of the waterway.
