Much of what we achieve goes unseen by the waterways community, even boaters and even our own membership, because it goes on behind the scenes. However, there are certain areas in which we have been instrumental in affecting the waterways world.

NABO was victorious in taking BW to the Waterway Ombudsman over the lack of consultation concerning boat licence fee increases.

|
NABO 's system of regional and local level representation provides a valuable means of cross fertilisation of ideas between different waterways. There have been many instances where NABO representatives have been able to cite productive thinking on one waterway to benefit others. |

NABO has been a leading influence in securing a commitment to minimise the mandatory requirements of the Boat Safety Scheme and also in securing changes to the appeals procedure. It is one of few boating groups with representation at both technical and advisory level within the scheme. |

This act affects all boaters on waterways controlled by BW. NABO secured 28 amendments to the Act and concessions on the way it would be applied before it was passed. These brought in valuable safeguards for boaters.
